The directory contains entries. Entries may represent persons, roles, machines, programs, server volumes, web sites, or anything else you may want to look up. The most common use for an LDAP server such as ClickMail is for looking up people's email addresses.

Each entry contains attributes, such as common name, email address, phone number, etc. Decide what information you want to store about each person. One criteria may be what types of data are supported/displayed by the LDAP client programs you intend to use. To make this easy, ClickMail's default entry type, "emailPerson," includes the primary fields for the programs listed in our Clients section below.
