User passwords

LDAP person entries may include a password attribute (LDAP term: userPassword). The value(s) of the password may be used to authenticate LDAP users, and users of other services that use the LDAP Compare request. Permissions for the password are turned off by default, so that it is not returned in LDAP searches. The password is visible locally when editing entries in ClickMail, and also in remote web administration.

In AppleShare mirror mode, a mirror entry's password, when present, is synchronized with AppleShare user password. By default, the password is only copied from AppleShare during synchronization if a password attribute already exists in the mirror entry. To have all mirror entries add passwords from AppleShare, under ClickMail Preferences check "Copy passwords from ASIP Users & Groups." If more than one password value is present in the mirror entry's attribute, only the first value is synchronized with AppleShare. This makes it possible to have an LDAP password that is different from the AppleShare password.
