Known Issues
- DAVE users: be sure to use DAVE version 4.0.2 or later
- Some applications or servers may not work with DigiTunnel's default settings, even though DigiTunnel has connected successfully. In many cases, a different mtu setting (such as mtu 400 or mtu 1466) in Advanced preferences solves this problem. See Troubleshooting section. Lotus Notes in particular has problems working over DigiTunnel.
- Not all VPN servers cannot be used with DigiTunnel. IPSec is not supported. See compatibility page.
- With encryption off, connects to Mac OS X Server 10.2 vpn without reporting error. But connection does not pass data. (Solution: Enable encryption for Mac OS X Server connections.)
- Stateful (as opposed to stateless) encryption is not supported. Some older, non-upgraded servers may only have stateful encryption. To support DigiTunnel, these servers must be upgraded to stateless encryption.
- Only one VPN connection at a time is supported (primarily a routing table issue).
- Software AirPort BaseStation (not a hub) doesn't work while connected.
- A newly changed password can be erased in certain circumstances. If your password expires and the server allows, DigiTunnel prompts you for a new password when you connect, then sets the password on the server and stores it in DigiTunnel Preferences. However, if DigiTunnel's Preferences panel is open during the change, the panel may overwrite the new password.
- New PPTP configurations do not show up in Network Active Ports until System Preferences is restarted. However, Network Active Ports isn't needed for configuring DigiTunnel.
- If the VPN is disconnected while a VPN-connected volume (a remote drive) is opened in the Finder, the Finder may hang for up to 2 minutes. A warning appears when closing from the menu, but disconnection is also caused by editing DigiTunnel configurations or putting the Mac to sleep.
- If the server's VPN address is within the Mac's own subnet, connection problems will occur either during or after the VPN session. If you are connecting from a private IP range behind a NAT gateway, and the server's VPN address is in the same range, this causes routing problems. And when you disconnect, the normal route to your local network is deleted by Mac OS X. To recover, switch to another Location (Network preferences pane) and back. "VPN address" means the private address supplied by the server, not the server address in DigiTunnel's preferences pane.
- Passwords entered in DigiTunnel preferences are stored in the user's preferences file. The password is encrypted, but not stored in the Keychain.
- 2-byte (uncompressed) IP protocol headers are not supported.
- AppleTalk networking protocol is not supported (not to be confused with AppleShare servers, which work fine over IP and DigiTunnel).
- EAP/TLS authentication is not supported.
- Classic applications cannot take advantage of split-routing. When connected, Classic IP networking goes only over the VPN, and local machines are not seen. (Hint: if you want to print from Classic while connected, consider AppleTalk).
